There are around 25 children in the home. All are girls, with an age range from below school age through to late teens. Every child attends a good quality school, and some of the older girls are now attending college or university. They are all progressing well educationally. At the Refuge, they are also provided with medical care and counselling support where this is required. The lady in charge is trained in these general areas. Her goal is to see that “every deserving child lives a meaningful and purposeful life with dignity” and receives the opportunity to develop and realise their potential as individuals. The home, which is run with a Christian ethos, is well equipped and the atmosphere is warm and positive. The children act like one big family and are very supportive of one other.
The leader had a vision for a long time to establish a care home for abandoned children in Bangalore, in the area where she lived. The home was opened in August 2007 and has developed and grown since then. With the number of children in India, the problem of orphans and abandoned children is huge. She gave up her employment to start this ministry and her husband is totally supportive of his wife in what she is doing and is also involved in the work on evenings and weekends.
