The Team

Trevor Alexander (Trustee)

Trevor previously ran his own company which he sold to focus on Christian ministry.

Dr Ian Burness (Trustee)

Ian graduated as a doctor in Aberdeen. He spent over a decade working as a medical missionary in Zambia. Returning with his family to Aberdeen, he worked as a GP for a few years before being asked to become the General Director of a mission service group. Ian has now retired from this position. Ian has visited many countries in the developing world over the last 25 years.

Douglas (Trustee) and Barbara Griffin

Douglas recently took over as Chairman of the Trustees and regularly visits projects. He is a Chartered Accountant who took early retirement from a senior role in the NHS. Barbara, who lectured in business studies, is the Trust’s Treasurer.

Keith and Senga (Trustee) Lake

Senga is a qualified school teacher and is married to Keith, a retired airline pilot. They served as mission workers in DR Congo for about 15 years with Keith flying small planes and Senga involved in education.

Seumas and Sheena (Trustee) Macfarlane

Seumas, previously a local government officer, is now retired and makes a significant contribution by providing technical support to the team. Sheena is a retired dentist and is the Secretary of the Trust. Like all other team members, Seumas and Sheena visit our project partners.

Howard Peebles (Trustee)

Howard, a Chartered Accountant, worked for nearly 40 years in the construction industry for the same company, being the Group Financial Director for most of that time and ultimately also the Chairman of the Group. He has travelled widely over the last 15 years through his involvement with Shared Hope.

John Purves (Trustee)

John grew up in the East of Scotland and graduated with a Degree in Agriculture. Until recently, he operated his own farm in the Scottish Borders where he developed a social programme linked to egg production to rehabilitate young people who had been excluded from school. John worked as the Senior Executive of a family business which sets aside a proportion of its profits for use in the developing world.

Christopher Smith (Trustee)

Chris is a corporate lawyer engaged in private equity matters for an investment management firm. He has a heart for helping people who live in poverty and face injustice. He visits our projects.

Shared Hope does not employ anyone and all of the team are volunteers, making no charge for the work that they do. Over the years that we have been operating, we have been able to distribute over 97% of our income to our project partners.
