Emmanuel Foundation was started in 2016 and now operates two Christian schools in the west of India, in a strongly Hindu rural area, between Mumbai and Nashlik. At present, each school has around 20-30 pupils. The area is considered too dangerous for Westerners to visit. The leader, who is a pastor and church planter, is highly educated and motivated and has been known by a Shared Hope team member for some time. The focus is to serve the Dalit community by providing their children with a quality English medium education to improve their life chances. The community live in dense forests and therefore do not have access to many facilities. They struggle with health issues as there are no hospitals nearby and no safe drinking water, no proper education and little income as they depend on farming. Several churches have been planted. The Emmanuel Foundation is also committed to working with young people by organising awareness programmes covering health issues and offering counselling to those with addictions.
